Ernst Brings Transparency to Hidden Corners of The Swamp

WASHINGTON – After a shocking report revealed government bureaucrats multiplied in number, collected bigger paychecks, and became more secretive during the Biden years, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is introducing new legislation to ensure that the American people know how their tax dollars are spent and what the bloated bureaucracy is up to.

Final Christmas Squeal with Scroll

The Where’s the Workforce At Listed by Duties and Office (Where’s WALDO) Act will require the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to create a public directory of federal employees, listing both job descriptions and how much they are being paid.

“Like a twisted game of reverse Secret Santa, taxpayers are gifting paychecks to bureaucrats who remain anonymous,” said Ernst. “The American people should not be forced to play ‘Where’s Waldo’ when it comes to figuring out where federal workers are during the workday. I will be embracing the Christmas spirit by creating a list, that anyone can check twice, to clearly state where every federal employee is and how much they are being paid.”

Background:

Ernst has led the charge on key reforms to make the federal workforce smaller and more efficient to better serve taxpayers.

Her groundbreaking Out of Office report laid the groundwork for the Trump administration to order all bureaucrats back into the office by revealing a systemic culture of telework abuse and recommending specific changes to fix the bloated bureaucracy.

Ernst also exposed bureaucrats taking a bubble bath, golfing, running a personal business, collecting multiple paychecks from different government agencies by double billing for the same work hours, and even being arrested driving drunk—all while on the clock and supposedly serving taxpayers.

During the Schumer Shutdown, Ernst exposed the true cost of bureaucrats not working to taxpayers, as 750,000 bureaucrats collected $400 million per workday in backpay despite sitting on their couches and not working for more than a month.
