Joined By AARP Iowa, Ernst Holds Another Tele-Town Hall with Seniors

Ernst was joined by AARP Iowa State Director, Brad Anderson, and a member of National Association of Health Underwriters, Dwane McFerrin, who specializes in Medicare policy

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) held another telephone town hall today, this time with thousands of Iowa seniors, to answer questions on a range of topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including her work to provide information and resources specific to seniors and protect these Iowans against scammers and fraud. She was joined by AARP Iowa State Director, Brad Anderson, and a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters, Dwane McFerrin, who specializes in Medicare policy.

“Iowans from every corner of our state are facing challenges during these tough times, but it’s especially important our seniors and those who are most at-risk amid this pandemic get the support they need,” said Senator Joni Ernst. “This telephone town hall was another opportunity for me to connect directly with Iowans, take questions, and provide an update on the COVID-19 support I’m working on in the Senate, like providing financial relief to our family caregivers, and I appreciate Brad from AARP Iowa and Dwane from the National Association of Health Underwriters for taking time to join and provide important insight and information to our seniors. As we all work together to get through this crisis, I continue to encourage Iowans to stay safe and stay strong.”

Today, Senator Ernst discussed her efforts to assist family caregivers, who play a critical role in supporting older folks across our state. Earlier today, the senator urged her colleagues to support her bipartisan Credit for Caring Act, and to include, at a minimum, a modified or temporary version of her bill in the next COVID-19 relief package, an effort AARP Iowa said “would provide some much-needed financial relief to eligible family caregivers in Iowa and across the country.”

Senator Ernst has been fighting for Iowa’s seniors throughout this COVID-19 pandemic, including calling for bipartisan action to crackdown on scammers who are targeting Iowa seniors. She penned a column about her efforts to secure relief for and ensure the care and safety of Iowa’s seniors. Read her column here.

This was the ninth telephone town hall Senator Ernst has held in the last few weeks.
