WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) challenged Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to explain how fraud was allowed to flourish and go unpunished in his state and gave her January Squeal Award to Governor Tim Walz for allowing scammers to rip off taxpayers.
Ernst pushed for accountability on behalf of Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars by calling Ellison out for funds being “funneled away into fraudulent schemes” and reminding him of his own false claim that his state had “done enough” while Minnesota’s fraud schemes had already wasted more than $9 billion in tax dollars.

Watch Senator Ernst’s remarks here.
“What we need is your governor then to step up to the plate and any crime that needs to be prosecuted, it needs to be done. The American taxpayer is tired of their dollars being funneled out of their pockets into scammers’ pockets,” said Ernst.
Background:
Recently, Ernst worked to put a stop to fraud before it starts with her Putting an N to Learing about Fraud Act that would close the loopholes that allowed these Minnesota schemes.
She was tapped earlier this year to lead a package of bills to tackle the fraud and ensure what happened in Minnesota is never allowed to happen again.
