Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Highlights Jerald Sulky Company

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced the Small Business of the Week: Jerald Sulky Company of Waterloo. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Ernst has been traveling Iowa from river to river visiting with small business owners, hearing the concerns of job creators, and celebrating the successes of Iowa’s entrepreneurs.

Never compromising the integrity of their product or cutting any corners, Jerald Sulky Company is a unique small business reaching customers both locally and around the globe. I’m proud to see yet another small business, with such long-standing roots in our state, continue to lead their industry with quality service and product,” said Ranking Member Ernst.

Over 125 years of manufacturing has made the Jerald Sulky Company synonymous with excellence. Since 1898, the company has manufactured sulkies, vehicles similar to horse sleighs, leading the company to become world famous in the showring and on the racetrack. Today, Jerald Sulky Company is the last commercial manufacturer of horse drawn vehicles in the world and employs a team of 12 artisans. Owners Erik and Shelli Lee take pride in the long history of the business and have expanded to ship sulkies domestically and internationally, all the while remaining focused on the excellence and integrity of their product.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
