WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) issued the following statement after the United States Senate confirmed South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations:

“As the Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley has united the people of her state through compassionate and decisive leadership. When tragedy struck Charleston at Emanuel A.M.E. Church, Governor Haley stood firm in the face of hate and displayed the type of grace and integrity indicative of a strong and steady leader. She has also worked diligently to promote economic engagement around the world, traveling abroad on a number of economic development missions.

“After years of rocky U.S. diplomacy abroad and the United Nations in dire need of reform, I look forward to the leadership Governor Haley will bring to this post, and I am pleased to support her confirmation as United States Ambassador to the United Nations.”
