In Cedar Rapids, Ernst Meets with Local Officials, Continues Hearing from Iowans Impacted by the Derecho

The Iowa senator helped distribute food to folks at the HACAP Mobile Food Pantry.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) today visited Cedar Rapids to continue to meet with and hear from Iowans as the state works to recover from the derecho that hit earlier this week.

“The damage from this week’s storm is heartbreaking, but it’s times like these that remind us of the resiliency of folks in our state. As our communities work together to rebuild, I’m committed to supporting Iowans every step of the way,” said Senator Ernst.

Ernst, joined by Governor Kim Reynolds and the Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard, Ben Corell, met with officials from Linn County and the city of Cedar Rapids at the Cedar Rapids Central Fire Station.

 Following the meeting, Ernst surveyed damage and spoke with folks impacted from the derecho on her way to the HACAP Mobile Food Pantry, where she helped distribute food.
