Ernst’s Bipartisan Resolution Honoring Blue Star Mothers Passes Senate

The resolution designates February 1, 2020 as Blue Star Mothers Day

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a combat veteran and chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, along with ranking member Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), applauded the Senate passage of their bipartisan resolution designating February 1, 2020 as Blue Star Mothers Day. This day of recognition honors the many sacrifices and contributions mothers of servicemembers make for our troops.

“Since World War II, countless mothers of our nation’s servicemembers have volunteered their efforts and made sacrifices to support our troops and to do their part on the home front as part of the Blue Star Mothers of America. In fact, mothers in Iowa played a pivotal role in helping form some of the organization’s very first chapters,” said Senator Joni Ernst, the first female combat veteran to serve in the U.S. Senate. “I’m honored to be able to mark their tireless and critical work and contributions to our nation by partnering with my colleague Senator Gary Peters on legislation officially celebrating February 1st as Blue Star Mothers Day.”

“Blue Star Mothers represent an unwavering pillar of support for each other and for our brave men and women in uniform,” said Senator Peters, a former Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and a Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “Their hard work continues to inspire a grateful nation. I am proud to partner with Senator Ernst on this bipartisan resolution that celebrates Blue Star Mothers and their tireless dedication to service, and I look forward to continue working to support all of their efforts in Michigan and across the country.”

“Blue Star Mothers have been supporting our Military and Veterans for nearly 78 years and continue to this day,” said Carla Brodacki, President of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc.  “We appreciate the recognition bestowed on this organization made up of Moms who have or have had children serving in the Armed Forces.”

The 198 active chapters of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. continue to build a supportive community both for veterans and the mothers of servicemembers. These chapters organize events in Iowa and around the nation to help pack and ship care packages to servicemembers, visit hospitalized veterans, help homeless veterans, support wounded warriors and honor fallen heroes during funeral services.
