WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) blasted the Biden administration for making America less safe by failing to address the border crisis.
Ernst pointed out that since Friday, over 9,000 illegal immigrants have crossed our southern border each day, which is roughly equivalent to the entire population of her home county, Montgomery County, Iowa. While hundreds of individuals on the terror watchlist cross our border and smuggle fentanyl into our rural communities, Biden is auctioningoff materials for the wall that could be used to secure our border.

Ernst has consistently worked to defend our border. In May, she led the BUILD IT Act which would require the federal government to transfer any material associated with the construction of the southern border barrier to any state, upon request, for the materials’ original purpose. Ernst also spearheaded the Disrupt Fentanyl Trafficking Act, a bipartisan effort to address fentanyl trafficking by utilizing Department of Defense tools and involving Mexico as an active partner to combat this crisis and disrupt Mexican cartel activity. This bill was included in the Senate-passed National Defense Authorization Act.
