Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, The Cottage

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: The Cottage of Crawford County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“Mother and daughter duo Cindy and Taylor Borkowski have turned their passion for home decor into a thriving small business!” said Ranking Member Ernst. “I want to congratulate the Borkowskis for pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams and creating a great community in Denison. I’m wishing the entire team at The Cottage even more success at their new location.”

In 2020, Cindy and Taylor Borkowski purchased the Your Treasure Chest home decor store on Broadway in Denison from Deb and Jeff Frehse. In the same month, they re-opened it as The Cottage and continued selling quality home decor. In addition to home decor, The Cottage offers a selection of children, baby, seasonal, and devotional items that are often showcased on their Facebook page. The Cottage has been named the Best Boutique in Crawford County and won the Innovators Award from the local Chamber and Development Council. Co-founder Taylor Borkowski also serves as a community leader and is an organizer of Denison’s Hot Summer Nights series. This year, The Cottage celebrated its fourth business anniversary.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
