Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Highlights Dirt Road Candle Company, Inc.

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced the Small Business of the Week: Dirt Road Candle Company, Inc. in Cass County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“Starting a small business from scratch and earning satisfied customers takes hard work and a commitment to service. I’m proud to recognize Dirt Road Candle Company, Inc. for their success and creativity to bring a one-of-a-kind, Iowa experience to the homes of many,” said Ranking Member Ernst.

In 2016, Michelle and Steve Myers bought a farm on a dirt road in Cass County where Michelle started making hand-poured candles leading to the creation of her small business, which now has six employees. Each candle is named after different moments or ideas from rural Iowa, such as “Call Your Mom,” which was inspired by Myers’s time at Iowa State University, “Iowa Nice,” and “Backyard Lilacs.” In response to the 2019 floods impacting Southwest Iowa, the Dirt Road Candle Company, Inc. released a candle called “Love Your Neighbor” with profits supporting flood victims.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
