Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Dutchman’s Store

Throughout this Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Dutchman’s Store of Van Buren County. Throughout the 119th Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“Since 1985, Dutchman’s Store has been a staple of southeast Iowa, offering everything from soup to hay,” said Chair Ernst. “One stitch at a time, they’ve sewed a legacy that honors their commitment to rural values. This small business is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of rural America.”

Founded in 1985 by Clair and Virginia Zimmerman, Dutchman’s Store began as a small family business rooted in Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Now operated in Cantril with help from their sons, the store has grown into a 50,000 square-foot retail destination offering groceries, sewing supplies, clothing, and even their very own Dutchman’s Café.

Stay tuned as Chair Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
