Throughout this Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: By the Hearth Bookshop & Coffeehouse of Davis County. Throughout the 119th Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.
“Since opening in 2024, By the Hearth Bookshop & Coffeehouse has been brewing more than just great coffee, it has become a real page-turner in the story of Bloomfield,” said Chair Ernst. “The Williams family has crafted a cozy, chapter-worthy space fueling ideas and strengthening community bonds that make customers feel like they’re at home.”
After moving to Iowa, husband and wife duo Joshua and Kerry Williams founded By the Hearth Bookshop & Coffeehouse in 2024. The shop offers a thoughtfully-curated selection of books, stationery, gifts, and more alongside a cozy coffeehouse serving handcrafted drinks, sandwiches, and pizzas. The shop hosts weekly children’s story times, book clubs, and tutoring sessions, while its adjoining event center has become a go-to spot for weddings, baby showers, and local gatherings. Through hard work, dedication, and hearts for others, the Williams have transformed their dream into a thriving community hub.
Stay tuned as Chair Ernst continues to recognize outstanding Iowa small businesses with her Small Business of the Week award.
