Ernst’s full remarks:

“For generations, the fabric of our nation, and the freedoms we cherish, have been protected valiantly by selfless heroes who served America in uniform.

“Veterans Day is just one of 365 opportunities we have to thank those who have answered this sacrificial call to duty.

“Our veterans each chose to give up the comfort of civilian life to serve our nation, and for that, they should always be shown our highest respect and honor.

“As a combat veteran who served for 23 years in our military, I am forever grateful for those who have fought and died to keep America the greatest nation on the face of the planet.

“I also want to thank the families and loved ones of servicemembers who have sacrificed holidays, moments large and small, and more in the name of their country. They too are our nations heroes.

“Today and every day, we thank you for your incredible commitment to our nation. We are forever in your debt.

“May God bless all those who served, and continue to serve, the great United States of America.

“Happy Veterans Day!”
