Ernst: America and our allies should not enrich Iran’s corrupt terrorist regime, not now and not ever

WASHINGTON – Following reports that Iran is requesting South Korea and Japan to unfreeze a billion dollars in Iranian assets if the Biden Administration gives them the go-ahead, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), the first female combat veteran elected to the Senate and the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, issued a direct message to the Biden Administration:

“Iran has done absolutely nothing to indicate they are serious about deescalating tensions—in fact they’ve only done the complete opposite in recent weeks. The state sponsor of terrorism is holding Americans hostage and they bluntly told the world’s nuclear agency they are ramping up the production of enriched nuclear material.

“President Biden should stand up and make it crystal clear that the United States says ‘no way’ to releasing these dollars and strongly advises our partners in South Korea and Japan not to give into Tehran’s request. With the ongoing escalations in the Middle East, it’s certainly unwise for the Biden Administration and our allies to even consider giving these funds to Iran or rejoining the failed Obama-Biden Iran Nuclear Deal.

“It is simple: Iran supports and sponsors terrorism and America and our allies should not enrich Iran’s corrupt regime, not now and not ever.”

Background:
Earlier this month, Senator Ernst helped introduced a resolution expressing opposition to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and urging President Biden to work with Congress and refuse to re-join the deal without significant reform.

Senator Ernst also penned an op-ed in the Washington Examiner calling on the Biden administration to make a top priority of keeping our nation and the world safe from the threat of Iranian nuclear missiles and urging President Biden to look at the Iranian threat as it exists today and make his decisions based instead on what is best for the safety and security of the American people.
