Senate Moves Forward On Trade Authority

Source: WHO

On June 23, the Senate voted 60-37 to avoid a filibuster and end debate on Trade Promotion Authority so a yes or no vote can be taken.

Both Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst voted yes on the cloture.

The bill is expected to have a final vote later in June and was added to HR 2146  along with a bill addressing issues with retirement funds.

Trade Promotion Authority lets the President negotiate trade deals with other countries that Congress can pass or reject, but not amend. It assures other countries that hard won deals will not be changed by the legislative process.
