Ernst Votes to Immediately Reopen the Government

On Friday, Senator Ernst voted to reopen the government, following a deal announced between President Trump and Congress to allow more time to address the humanitarian crisis and to secure the southern border.  Senator Ernst also voted to end the partial government shutdown and secure our southern border on Thursday.  To underscore her commitment to a bipartisan solution to secure our border and immediately reopen the government, Senator Ernst also took to the Senate floor, joining Republican and Democratic colleagues, to give a powerful speech about the need to work together, in support of the American people.

“The American people expect us to do better; we have an opportunity to step up and do the right thing, and that's find a solution.”

In her speech, she outlined the fundamental duties of Congress: to provide for our nation’s security and to fund the government.  She also outlined the impact that the partial shutdown has had on Iowans.
