ICYMI: Ernst Gets Bill Creating Global War on Terrorism Memorial Signed Into Law

A veteran of the Global War on Terrorism herself, Ernst spearheaded the years-long effort to create the memorial on the National Mall that will honor the veterans of America’s longest war.

WASHINGTON—After a years-long, hard fought effort, Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) had her bipartisan legislation to build a memorial on the National Mall honoring the veterans of the Global War on Terrorism signed into law, guaranteeing that the memorial will soon become a reality.
 
WOWT-TV in Omaha reported on Ernst’s successful effort, stating: Part of the [NDAA] signed yesterday was a provision creating a Global War on Terrorism memorial. The effort is led by Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire.”

The Military Times covered Ernst’s bill getting signed into law, reporting: “A memorial for veterans of the Global War on Terror is now set to be built on the National Mall, and a tribute to Medal of Honor recipients will be included nearby. […] The provision was championed in recent months by a host of House and Senate lawmakers, including veterans Rep. Jason Crow, D-Pa.; Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wisc.; and Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported on Ernst’s memorial bill getting signed into law, stating: The bill signed by Biden also includes a provision spearheaded by Ernst to build a memorial on the National Mall honoring the veterans of the Global War on Terrorism. Ernst commanded 150 troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom and is the first female combat veteran to serve in the U.S. Senate.”
